SIKAP WANITA PEKERJA SEKS TERHADAP PENGGUNAAN KONDOM UNTUK PENCEGAHAN INFEKSI MENULAR SEKSUAL DI MARIHAT BUKIT KABUPATEN SIMALUNGUN

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Behavior of female sex workers in using condom is related to the spread of sexually transmitted infection all over the world. Attitude of female sex workers in preventing sexual intercourse without condom can be improved to avoid the risk of sexually transmitted infection. Objective: To get an overview of attitude of female sex workers toward the prevention of sexually transmitted infection in relation to sexual behavior of using condom while having sexual intercourse with customers. Method: The study used cross sectional design and quantitative as well as qualitative approach (indepth interview). Subject of the study were female sex workers at Huta III Marihat Bukit localization area, District of Simalungun with as many as 110 samples. Data were obtained through questionnaire and processed using univariable with frequency distribution, bivariable with chi square (X2 ), and multivariable with logistic regression model (Poisson). Result: The result of bivariable test showed that attitude toward the prevention of sexually transmitted infection (X2 = 38.40, RP=3.82, p<0.01), age (X2 =3.90, RP=1.59, p=0.02) and income (X2 =3.90, RP=1.53, p=0.048) subsequently had significant relationship with use of condom. The result of multivariable test model 4 indicated that attitude toward sexually transmitted infection (p<0.01, and RP=6.07) had significant relationship with use of condom. Conclusion: Attitude toward the prevention of sexually transmitted infection had significant relationship with use of condom at confidence interval 95%. Therefore, female sex workers with bad attitude had greater risk for not using condom.
