dc.description.abstractDiabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by the occurrence of hyperglycemia and impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins associated with an absolute or relative deficiency of work and / or insulin secretion. Carrying out experiments usually use a solution of glucose, alloxan, streptozotocin, and corticosteroid drugs. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Streptozotocin and Aloxan as diabetagonic agents in the in vivo test. The method used in this research was the Literature Study, by collecting secondary data based on the results of previous studies that have been published a maximum of the last 10 years in the form of scientific articles, review articles, or other articles from journals that have been indexed by Google Scholar and at least national accredited. Based on the results of the study of literature obtained 4 articles that have been analyzed. Streptozotocin and alloxan can be diabetagonic agents in in vivo testing. Streptozotocinwas administered by intraperitoneal or intravenous route with a dose of 40mg / body weight 45mg / body weight in male white rat test animals, the time required for hyperglycemic 3 days. Whereas administration of alloxan in Swiss mice test animals by intraperitoneal route with a dose of 120mg / body weight and 3 days is needed for hyperglycemic conditions. The conclusion of this study is that Streptozotocin and alloxan provide effectiveness as diabetagonic agents but streptozotocin is more effective because low doses can increase blood sugar levels in experimental animals.en_US
