Background. Myocardial infarction is myocardial necrosis caused by inadequate blood supply due to acute blockage of coronary arteries. This blockage is mostly caused by atheroma plaque rupture in the coronary arteries which is then followed by thrombosis, vasoconstriction, inflammatory reaction, and distal microembolization. Blood cholesterol level is a major risk factor for the process of atherosclerosis that underlies coronary heart disease (CHD) including acute coronary syndrome. Method. This research uses Literature review which searches the library using an internet journal database search engine. The database used in this study is Google Scholar and DOAJ. Results. From ten articles on the description of total cholesterol in patients with myocardial infarction found two journals that stated high total cholesterol, two journals that said low HDL and one journal that stated high LDL. Conclusion. From nine articles on the description of total cholesterol in patients with myocardial infarction it is concluded that in Indonesia the incidence of CHD is still very high with various characteristics.en_US
