The Relationship between Brushing Habits and Dental Caries Incidence in Elementary School Children

ABSTRACT

Dental caries is an infectious disease of dental tissue caused by demineralization of enamel and dentin. One of the contributing factors is the habit of brushing teeth with inappropriate techniques and inadequate attention to dental and oral health. A person with the habit of brushing his teeth using good and correct techniques will prevent the occurrence of dental caries. Dental caries can cause pain, tooth extraction, and loss of chewing power which will end in digestive disorders, resulting in the growth of elementary school children who are not optimal. This research is a systematic review of 10 articles published in the last 5 years. This study aims to find out the relationship between tooth brushing habits and the incidence of dental caries in elementary school children. Through the results of a systematic review of 10 articles, it is known that the habit of brushing teeth in elementary school children is in good criteria, 50%, 30% do not have dental caries, and 20% have dental caries. This study concludes that there is a relationship between the habit of brushing teeth with the incidence of dental caries in elementary school children.
