ABSTRACT

The level of dental and oral health greatly affects the incidence of dental caries in preschool children. Adequate knowledge about how to maintain dental health will increase the ability of parents to supervise their children so that they are able to maintain dental and oral hygiene. Dental caries is a disease that begins with damage to tooth surface tissues such as pits, fissures, and interproximal areas, and extends to the pulp. This study is a systematic review of 10 journals published in the last 5 years, and aims to determine the correlation between the level of parental knowledge about oral health and the incidence of dental caries in preschool children. Through a review of 10 articles, it is known that 40% of parents have knowledge in the poor category and 90% of preschool children experience dental caries. This study concludes that it is very important to make an effort to increase parental knowledge about dental and oral health to reduce the incidence of dental caries in preschool children.
