Abstract: MEDAN HEALTH POLYTECHNICS OF MINISTRY OF HEALTH DENTAL HYGIENE DEPARTMENT SCIENTIFIC PAPER, MAY 2022 Elka Octavya Br Sembiring CORRELATION BETWEEN THE HABIT OF CARIOGENIC FOOD CONSUMPTION AND DENTAL CARIES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN ixi + 35 pages, 7 tables, 7 pictures, 5 attachments ABSTRACT Dental caries is one of the most common diseases found in school-age children. One of the causes of caries is the habit of consuming cariogenic foods, types of foods that play a role in the formation of dental caries such as chocolate, candy, cakes and sweet foods. Cariogenic foods make children very susceptible to dental caries. This study is a systematic review of 10 journals, and aims to determine the correlation between cariogenic food consumption habits and the incidence of caries in school-age children. Through the results of a systematic review of 10 articles, it is known that 10 articles (100%) found that respondents consumed cariogenic foods, especially foods in the sweet category; and the frequency of consumption of cariogenic foods was in the frequent category, found by 9 articles (90%). This study concludes that there is a correlation between the habit of consuming cariogenic foods and the incidence of dental caries in elementary school children, stated in 8 articles (80%) while 2 articles (20%) did not find such a correlation in elementary school children.
