Abstract: | Menopause is the period when a woman stops menstruating. A woman reaches the menopause phase characterized by menstruation that does not occur for 12 months or more, which makes her very susceptible to gout, because menopausal women experience decreased levels of the hormone estrogen. One of the functions of the hormone estrogen is to excrete uric acid through urine. The decreased estrogen hormone in postmenopausal women causes uric acid levels in the blood to increase. This study is a literature study or systematic review designed descriptively, aiming to describe uric acid levels in postmenopausal women. The research was carried out by searching and selecting data obtained through a literature study. Five articles published in the last 10 years were obtained for review, sourced from books, scientific journals and the Google Scholar database. Based on the research results, it is known that uric acid levels in postmenopausal women tend to increase; from a total of 179 respondents, 92 women (51%) of whom experienced increased uric acid levels; while 87 women (49%) had uric acid levels in the normal category. Menopausal women are advised to live a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly and avoid foods that contain high purines. |
