Abstract: Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease that attacks the lung parenchyma caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The discovery of fungi in the sputum of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis can be due to a fungal infection (mycosis) of the respiratory tract, especially the lungs. Fungal infections commonly occur in immunosuppressed patients. Long-term TB treatment facilitates the emergence of fungal infections, as well as long-term use of antibiotics which are immunosuppressive agents and increase the risk of infection. The aim of this study was to determine the percentage of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis infected with Candida albicans in Pulmonary Special Hospital of North Sumatra. The type of research used was descriptive research. This research was conducted in January - June at North Sumatra Provincial Health Laboratory. The study population was all pulmonary tuberculosis patients who had taken anti-tuberculosis drugs at Pulmonary Special Hospital of North Sumatra. The sample of this research was 8 samples. Examination was carried out by direct microscopic method with 10% KOH and fungal culture on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media followed by a germ tube formation test. The results of the study from 8 samples obtained 6 samples that were positive for Candida albicans (75%), namely in sample codes S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, and S7. Candida albicans was not found in 2 samples in sample code S1 and S8. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that patients with pulmonary tuberculosis infected with Candida albicans at Pulmonary Special Hospital of North Sumatra as much as 75%.
