Abstract: | Children at school age are a group of children who are very vulnerable to the risk of health problems, such as exposure to diseases due to bad lifestyles that greatly affect children's health. Giardiasis or infection by the protozoa Giardia lamblia is a nonviral cause of diarrhea and an agent of diarrhea in children and adults. Transmission of giardiasis in children can occur through faecal-oral transmission. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of giardiasis, as well as the relationship between giardiasis and clean and healthy behavior in children in Sempakata Kuta, Medan Selayang. This research is an analytic observational study with cross sectional design, and examined 30 children, aged 1-9 years, as samples. The results showed that: most of the respondents were women (60%); based on age, the majority of respondents were aged between 7-9 years (70%); and based on clean and healthy behavior, 50% of children practice this behaviour in the moderate category. Through examination of stool samples, samples are not infected with Giardia lamblia infection or giardiasis. This study concluded that there was no significant correlation between clean and healthy behavior and the incidence of giardiasis in Sempakata Kuta, Medan Selayang. |
