Abstract: | Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by loss of glucose homeostasis due to decreased function of insulin secretion, insulin action or both. Pare (Momordica charantia L.) is a shrub that can grow in the lowlands and can be found growing wild in abandoned soil, dry fields, or can be planted in the yard by creeping in the fence. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia L.) in reducing blood glucose levels by conducting a literature study This research method was a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. This type of research was literature study, by collecting secondary data based on the results of previous studies that have been published a maximum of the last 10 years in the form of scientific articles, review articles, or other articles from journals that have been indexed google scholar and at least already nationally accredited. The results of research from several journals that have been used as literature obtained bitter melon extract tested using induction of alloxan and streptozotocin, the conclusion of the literature is the same can reduce glucose levels in the blood. Starting from a concentration of 150 mg / kg, 200 mg / kg, 300 mg / kg, up to a concentration of 600 mg / kg. Based on literature review, it can be concluded that bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) has a efficacy in reducing blood glucose |
